As we celebrate the 70th birthday of Barr. Michael Idowu Adeniyi on August 9, 2024, we honor a man whose life exemplifies benevolence, grace, and unwavering commitment to education and public service.

Born into the royal Oniremu family of Imeri Clan in 1954, young Michael's journey began in the Western Region of Nigeria. His early years were marked by a thirst for knowledge that would shape his future and the lives of many around him.

Educational Pursuits

Michael's academic journey took him from St. Peters School in Ede to St. Charles Grammar School in Osogbo, where he formed lasting friendships and left an indelible mark as "Omo baba Biology". His classmates from those days, including Aina Raphael, Kolade, Gbenga Atanda, and Mayowa Adenle, remember him fondly for his generosity and camaraderie.

His pursuit of excellence led him to the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he earned a BSc in Crop Science with Second Class Upper honors in 1978. This was just the beginning of his lifelong commitment to learning, as he would later return to academia to obtain an MSc in Plant Pathology and a law degree from Ambrose Alli University (formerly Edo State University).

A Career of Service

Michael's professional life has been characterized by a dedication to public service and a willingness to adapt to new challenges. From his early days in the Bendel State civil service to his foray into politics, he has consistently sought ways to contribute to his community's betterment. His legal career, launched after his call to the Nigerian Bar in 2005, has been marked by a commitment to justice and fairness. This blend of agricultural expertise and legal acumen has uniquely positioned him to address the complex challenges facing his community.



Royal Duties and Community Leadership

In a twist of fate that speaks to his character and capabilities, Michael was appointed as the Oniremu of Uremu Kingdom, despite being the last son of the late Oba Adeniyi Adesuyi. This role has allowed him to serve his people with the wisdom gained from his diverse experiences and education.

Throughout his life, Michael has maintained strong ties with friends, classmates, and colleagues from various stages of his journey. From his days at St. Charles to his time at UNN, he has nurtured relationships that span decades.
